How long does it take to get matched with a tutor?

Matching typically takes 1-2 weeks, depending on tutor availability and your scheduling preferences. We prioritize finding the right fit over speed.

What happens in the first session?

The first session is an introduction where the tutor and student get to know each other, discuss learning goals, and begin planning personalized lessons. Parents are welcome to join.

Should parents be present during sessions?

This depends on the student's age and comfort level. Younger students may want a parent nearby; older students often prefer independent sessions.

What will my child learn in tutoring sessions?

Curriculum is personalized: pronunciation, conversational English, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing, and confidence in spoken communication.

iHear is a student-led organization powered by young leaders committed to expanding inclusive, high-quality communication support for learners with diverse needs. The President sets the organization’s vision and provides overall executive leadership; Directors lead major program areas and strategic initiatives; and Coordinators manage specialized functions and turn plans into action. Together, the student leadership team drives iHear’s programs, operations, growth, and community impact, with guidance from experienced adult mentors.

Leadership & Adminstrative Team 2026-2027

Our Leadership & Administrative Team helps turn iHear’s mission into action by leading initiatives and supporting the day-to-day systems that keep our programs running effectively. Student leaders help set priorities, develop and lead projects, coordinate teams, mentor other volunteers, solve problems, and strengthen areas such as educational quality, curriculum, outreach, research, technology, and program development. Administrative team members support essential operations such as tutor and tutee scheduling, onboarding logistics, Zoom and session coordination, family and tutor communication, records and documentation, event support, and other operational workflows. Together, the team work helps ensure that tutors are prepared and supported, learners receive consistent and high-quality services, projects move from ideas to implementation, and iHear can continue to grow as a reliable, inclusive, and sustainable organization.
